Greetings All!
Firstly, the Sarasota REIA wants to thank you for your patience and for your suggestions for a new meeting space.
We have had a tall order to fill to find space for 70 people, serving a cost-effective meal, that is in a convenient location for most.
Some of the “obvious” choices for venue such as Der Dutchman, Evie’s, Geckos, Super Buffet, etc either were not able or willing to accommodate us or were scratched for being too loud, too expensive, or not convenient.
Unfortunately, last week the Shriner’s did not perform as stipulated. We were supposed to be seated in their large hall and served a two entree hot lunch. Alias, that was not offered on the day we met. Although the Shrine has offered to redeem themselves, we don’t want to risk another poor experience there.
One of the “obvious” choices was the Super Buffet on Fruitville Rd. We did not immediately choose this venue after feedback from a number of members who do not have the same fondness for Chinese Buffet as others may. The Super Buffet refused a “drink only” option thereby forcing all attendees, whether or not they ate, to pay for the full price buffet. It would be unfair for us to insist members pay over $40 per month just to attend our meetings and not eat.
BUT! Thanks to the amazing negotiation skills of Eric Greenstein, Ed Taylor, and Jim Willig, the Super Buffet has now offered us a “drink only” option for attendees.
